In the Middle, God Is Still Working
In the Middle, God Is Still Working
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
“O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years!” Habakkuk 3:2
There is something deeply comforting about knowing that God finishes what He starts. Our lives are not random, unfinished sketches – they are intentional works in progress, carefully shaped by the hands of a faithful Creator.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us to stand firm in confidence. God has not abandoned the work He began in you. Your growth, your healing, your purpose – it is all still unfolding.
Yet if we’re honest, most of life isn’t lived at the beginning or the end of something, but in the middle.
The middle is where excitement fades and endurance is tested. It’s where prayers feel like they’re echoing, progress feels slow, and the finish line seems distant or unclear. The writer of Hebrews compares this journey to a race, one that requires us to lay aside every weight and run with endurance, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith (see Hebrews 12:1–2).
Paul echoes this same determination in Philippians 3:13–14, urging us to forget what lies behind and press forward toward the goal – not perfectly, not effortlessly, but persistently.
The middle is where we often need revival the most.
Habakkuk’s cry, “O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years,” speaks directly to that place, the space between promise and fulfillment. It’s a prayer for renewed strength, fresh vision, and restored passion when we feel weary or stuck. It’s a reminder that even when we feel unfinished, God is still actively working.
You may not be where you started, and you may not yet see the finish line, but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Growth is taking place beneath the surface. Faith is being strengthened and character is being refined.
You are not running alone. Those who came before us have carried the baton of faith through generations, but now it’s in our hands. The call is simple, but powerful – take the baton, run your race, and keep running – not by your own strength, but with your eyes fixed on Jesus, the One who started your journey and the One who will faithfully bring it to completion.
Action Step
Take a few quiet moments today to reflect on where you are in your “middle.” Write down one area of your life where you feel stuck, weary, or unfinished. Then, beside it, write Philippians 1:6 as a declaration. Each time doubt creeps in this week, speak that truth over your situation and ask God to renew your strength right where you are.
Father, thank You for being a God who finishes what You start. When I feel stuck in the middle, remind me that You are still working, even when I can’t see it. Revive my heart, renew my strength, and help me fix my eyes on You. Give me endurance to keep running the race set before me, letting go of anything that weighs me down. Strengthen my faith in the waiting and help me trust Your timing and Your process. I believe that the work You began in me will be completed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
