Let The Word Do The WorK
Let the Word Do the Work
“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart… and thou shalt talk of them… and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.” — Deuteronomy 6:6-8
Jesus Himself is the living Word of God (John 1:1,14). That means when we open the Bible, we aren’t just reading stories, we’re encountering the person, Jesus Christ. And that Word is seed - full of life, full of promise, and full of power.
But for the Word to do what it’s meant to do, it must be planted in good soil, and that soil is the heart.
God is always speaking. The question is: are we listening? Are we just hearing, or are we truly receiving His Word into our hearts? The Word of God isn’t just information, it’s transformation. And it begins with a heart willing to believe and willing to receive, even when life’s circumstances don’t seem to line up.
In Mark 4, Jesus gave the disciples a simple Word: “Let us go over to the other side.” (v. 35). It wasn’t a suggestion, it was a declaration. Yet when the storm hit, they panicked. Why? Because the Word hadn’t fully taken root. Earlier that day, Jesus had been teaching them about seed and soil, the parable of the sower (Mark 4:1-9). If they had truly received that teaching, they would have understood.
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11
When God speaks, the outcome is already secured. The Word is never void, and it’s never powerless, but it does require patience and persistence.
We can all experience a breakthrough by immersing ourselves in the Word. In order to do this we must turn off distractions like the TV, the music, and social media, and fill our free moments with reading Scripture, and listening to teachings. As we do this, our life will change - failures turn into successes, and fear turns into faith. Let the Word work for you and it will happen.
Too often, we expect microwave miracles. We dive into the Word for a few days and hope for instant results. But just as bread feeds the body, the Word feeds our spirit and our soul. Its effects are cumulative. It builds up over time, strengthening, nourishing, and transforming us.
The key is persistence. We keep our eyes fixed on God and His Word.
“...fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.” — Hebrews 12:2
God’s intention isn’t just to “fix” us in a moment, but to grow us into mature believers who can stand strong, bear fruit, and walk in spiritual authority, but be patient with the process. Don’t get discouraged when change feels slow. Stay rooted in the Word. Let it do its work, day by day, season by season.
Decide today to let the Word work for you.
As I often say, “If you work the Word, the Word will work for you!”
Reflection
** Have you made the Word of God your main source of nourishment, or is it getting drowned out by other voices?
** Are you expecting instant results or trusting God in the process of growth?
** What distractions could you turn down this week to turn up your time in the Word?
Prayer
Lord, I choose to immerse myself in Your Word. Help me to treasure it in my heart, to talk about it in my home, and to keep it before my eyes daily. Grow me through anchor me in it. Let Your Word take root and bear fruit in due season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
