Isn’t He Good?

Isn’t He Good?

Isn’t He Good? Isn’t He Great? Isn’t He Worthy?

He is good, He is great, and He is Worthy

Sometimes we need to stop in the middle of everything happening around us and simply remind our souls of what is true. God is faithful and He is always with us.

The circumstances around us may change, but the character of God does not.

Romans 12:2 reminds us:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

There is something powerful about allowing the Word of God to wash over our minds again and again. We live in a world filled with voices telling us to be afraid, discouraged, isolated, anxious, and overwhelmed.

God's Word reminds us of a greater truth. He is still God yesterday, today, and forever. His love has not changed, and His mercy still endures. God’s presence has not left us and we are still held in our Father's hand.

Psalm 136:1 says:

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.”

God’s goodness isn’t dependent upon whether my day is good. His faithfulness isn’t dependent upon whether my circumstances make sense, and His worthiness isn't dependent upon whether I understand what He's doing. He is worthy because He is God!

There will be moments when life feels like fire, waves, and storms. There will be seasons when we don't understand what God is doing or where He is leading us, but even there, God’s voice can lead us. His Word can steady us and His presence can comfort us.

Isaiah 43:2 shows us God's faithfulness:

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Notice that God doesn't say if we encounter waters or fire. He says when. There will be storms and there will be difficult seasons, but there is also a promise: “I will be with you.”

That changes everything!

When we focus on God, and all that He has done, everything else comes into perspective.

Focusing on God's goodness doesn't mean pretending that difficult things won’t ever happen.

It doesn't mean we ignore our pain, or that we never cry, or struggle, or admit that something hurts. It means that our circumstances don't get to become bigger than our God.

When we lift our eyes towards God, something begins to shift inside of us.

Our hearts begin to remember and our perspective begins to change. We renew our minds, and instead of allowing our circumstances to determine what we believe about God, we allow what we know about Him to shape how we walk through what is happening around us.

There are still storms, but now we know who is in the boat. There are still waves, but now we know who holds us. There are still uncertainties, but now we know who goes before us.

There is still loneliness, but now we remember that we are never truly alone.

Psalm 46:1 says:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

He isn't a distant God who watches us struggle from far away. He invites us into a relationship with Him.

He is our Father, our friend, our refuge, our Shepherd, and the One who stays. Perhaps one of the greatest reminders we can give someone who is struggling with loneliness today is to remind them that they are not forgotten, they are not abandoned, and they are not walking through this alone.

Jesus offers us a relationship with Him that is deeply personal and intimate.

In John 15:15, Jesus said:

“Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

Jesus shares the profound truths and love He received from God the Father with His disciples, and now, with us. What an incredible thought!

The God who created the heavens and the earth invites us to know Him, not merely know about Him, but to walk with Him, and that's why these reminders matter.

They matter to me. I need to preach these truths to my own heart everyday. I also want to share them with others, because there is a world full of people who need to be reminded that God is still good and that His mercy hasn't run out.

Someone needs to know that their storm doesn't mean God has abandoned them and that their loneliness doesn't mean they are alone.

Someone needs to lift their eyes from everything happening around them and look toward the One who is still worthy of praise.

So today, let's choose to remember:

Isn't He good? YES!

Isn't He great? YES!

Isn't He able? YES!

Isn't He worthy of praise? ALWAYS!

No matter what comes our way, we can still sing about the goodness of God because our praise isn't built upon perfect circumstances. Our praise is built upon a perfect God.

Two Ways We Can Practice This

1. Let God's Word Have the Final Say.

When fear, discouragement, loneliness, or uncertainty begins speaking loudly, answer those thoughts with Scripture. Don't just listen to the voice of the circumstance, wash your mind with the Word.

Ask yourself: What does God say about this? What has He promised me? What is true about His character? Speak that truth over your heart.

2. Turn Your Focus Into Praise.

When you feel overwhelmed by everything that is wrong, intentionally name what is true about God. Thank Him for His faithfulness and mercy. Thank Him for His presence and for what He has already carried you through.

Praise doesn't deny the storm. Praise reminds us who is Lord over the storm.

A Song that truly captures this is “Goodness of God” — CeCe Winans

This song captures beautifully the heart of this message: looking back at God's faithfulness and recognizing that His goodness has followed us through every season. As you listen, don't just sing the words, but remember where God has brought you from. Remember the prayers He answered and the moments He carried you.

Remember the times you thought you couldn't make it, and somehow, He brought you through.

After that, worship Him for who He is.

Father,

Thank You for being good.

Thank You for being faithful when we are afraid, faithful when we are confused, faithful when we are hurting, and faithful when we don't understand what You are doing.

Lord, renew our minds with Your Word. When the world becomes loud, help us hear Your voice.

When fear tells us that we are alone, remind us that You are with us.

When circumstances make us question Your goodness, bring Your faithfulness back to our remembrance and remind us that You are there. When the waves are crashing, remind us that You are still God.

Father, help us take our eyes off what is trying to consume us and place them back on You.

Teach our hearts to praise You, not because everything is perfect, but because You are worthy.

Thank You for being our Father, our Friend, our Refuge, our Strength, and our constant Companion.

Lord, don't let these truths stop with us. Give us opportunities to speak hope into someone's loneliness. Give us words for someone who is hurting. Give us courage to remind someone that they have not been forgotten. Let our lives become reminders of Your goodness to a world that desperately needs hope.

May our hearts continually say:

Isn't He good?

Isn't He great?

Isn't He worthy?

Yes, Lord, You are worthy. You have always been worthy and You will always be worthy of our praise. In Jesus' name, Amen.
