When Deep Calls to Deep

      Finding God in the Seasons of New Beginning

  "Deep calls to deep..." — Psalm 42:7

There is something beautiful about the changing of seasons.

Summer slowly fades as the crisp mornings of fall begin to arrive. The excitement of a new school year fills the air. Children walk into new classrooms. Parents begin new routines. Some step into new jobs, new ministries, new friendships, or even entirely new chapters of life.

With every new beginning comes a mixture of emotions!

Excitement, hope, anticipation, and sometimes, even fear.

The unknown has a way of making us question ourselves. Will I fit in? Am I capable? Will everything work out? Did I hear God correctly?

Yet every new season presents us with something far greater than a change in circumstances, it presents us with an invitation, an invitation to go deeper with God.

Psalm 42:7 says,

"Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me."

God never intended for us to stay in shallow water.

He lovingly calls us into a deeper relationship where our faith grows stronger, our trust becomes steadier, and our dependence on Him increases. The deeper we walk with Jesus, the less intimidating life's changing seasons become, not because our circumstances are easy, but because we know the One who walks beside us.

Every season has a purpose. Spring teaches us hope. Summer reminds us to grow. Autumn teaches us to let go of what no longer belongs. Winter teaches us to trust when we cannot yet see what God is preparing beneath the surface.

The same God who was faithful in your last season will be faithful in this one.

Maybe you're sending your child off to school for the first time. Maybe you're entering high school or college, or perhaps you've accepted a new job, joined a new church, become part of a new moms' group, or moved into a new community.

No matter what new season you’re facing, transitions can feel overwhelming because they take us out of what is familiar. But often it is in unfamiliar places that God does His deepest work.

He doesn't simply lead us into new places, He leads us deeper!!! 

Deeper in prayer, deeper in trust, deeper in His Word, deeper in surrender, and deeper in knowing His heart.

The closer we draw to Him, the more we discover that our peace was never meant to come from predictable circumstances. Our peace comes from His constant presence.

God reminds us in Isaiah 43:19

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?"

What feels like an ending may actually be the beginning of something God has been preparing all along.

And He gives us this wonderful promise in Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Notice that God doesn't promise there won't be change. He promises His presence in the middle of it. 

Whatever this new season looks like for you, don't simply ask God to bless your plans. Ask Him to draw you deeper. The greatest gift of any new beginning isn't the opportunity before you, it's the opportunity to know Jesus more intimately than you did before.

When deep calls to deep, answer His invitation. Leave the shallow waters behind. Trust Him with the unknown, and watch as He transforms every new season into a place of deeper faith, greater peace, and a closer walk with Him.

Action Steps

1. Spend intentional time with God every day this week. Even if it's only fifteen minutes, read His Word, pray honestly, and ask Him to deepen your relationship with Him instead of simply asking Him to change your circumstances.

2. Take one courageous step into your new season. Whether it's introducing yourself to another parent, beginning that new job with confidence, walking into a new classroom, joining a Bible study, or saying yes to where God is leading you, trust that He is already there waiting for you.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the unchanging God through every changing season of life. As we step into new beginnings, help us not to be overcome by fear or uncertainty but to be filled with faith. Draw us deeper into Your presence. Teach us to trust You more than our feelings and to depend on You more than our own understanding.

When new chapters feel overwhelming, remind us that You go before us, walk beside us, and remain within us through Your Holy Spirit. Strengthen our hearts, deepen our faith, and help us become more like Jesus with every step we take.

May this new season not simply change our circumstances but transform our relationship with You. Let every new beginning become another opportunity to know You more, love You more, and follow You more closely.
