Hello Lord...Are You There?
Hello Lord...Are You There?
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18
Hello Lord, are You there?
Let’s be honest, there have been times and seasons in all of our lives when we have asked that very question - not because we’ve stopped believing in God, but because life became so heavy that His presence felt distant.
There have been days when I prayed through tears, yet heaven seemed silent, days when my heart was filled with questions instead of answers, and days when loneliness settled in so deeply that I wondered if anyone truly saw what I was carrying.
I battled depression that stole my joy, anxiety that consumed my thoughts, and isolation that convinced me no one cared. My own mind became my greatest battlefield, repeating lie after lie until I almost believed them. It whispered that I wasn't enough, that I wasn't loved, and that I was forgotten. Perhaps you've experienced some of these same feelings.
Maybe your battle looks different than mine, but you've asked the same question: "Lord, where are You?"
Looking back now, I realize something beautiful. Even when I couldn't feel God, He never left me. While I questioned His presence, He was quietly carrying me. While I doubted His love, He was faithfully surrounding me with it. While I felt abandoned, He remained exactly where He had always promised He would be, right beside me.
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” — Deuteronomy 31:8
There were countless moments when I didn't have the strength to keep walking, but somehow I kept moving forward. It wasn't because I was strong. It was because God was carrying me one step at a time.
Sometimes we expect God's presence to feel dramatic. We wait for an overwhelming emotion or an unmistakable answer. Yet so often, His greatest work happens quietly. He gently whispers truth into our hearts while the world around us feels like it's falling apart.
During the time when Elijah was hiding in a cave on a mountain, God showed His Presence not through a powerful wind, an earthquake, or a fire, but through a gentle whisper (see 1 Kings 19:11-12).
As I began to heal, I realized that God had been speaking all along. His voice was simply quieter than the noise of my fear. His truth was stronger than the lies my mind kept repeating. His love was greater than the shame I carried. His light was brighter than the darkness surrounding me.
Dear friend, if you're reading this today while carrying a heavy heart, I want you to know something that changed my life. God is there for you too. He sees every anxious thought that keeps you awake at night. He knows every tear you've cried when no one else was around.
He understands every unanswered question and every silent struggle you've tried to hide from the people around you.
Nothing about your pain pushes Him away. Nothing about your brokenness makes Him love you less. You may feel like you're on an endless ride filled with unexpected highs and devastating lows. Some days you may feel like you're soaring, while other days you're barely hanging on.
But here's the beautiful truth....... You are not riding alone. You are not a single passenger trying to navigate life's storms by yourself. The Lord God Almighty is with you. When your heart is weary, He becomes your strength.
When your mind is overwhelmed, He becomes your peace. When your hope begins to fade, He reminds you that His promises never fail. When life's storms have damaged your wings and have been torn, bruised, and broken, by disappointment, grief, fear, or pain. He doesn't simply stand by and watch, He carries you until you're able to fly again.
What an incredible Savior!
The truth is, we all find ourselves surrounded by something.
For some it's grief. For others it's anger, bitterness, anxiety, depression, loneliness, fear, addiction, or shame. Sometimes the darkness feels so overwhelming that we wonder if we'll ever see the light again. But never forget, darkness has never been able to overcome the Light of Christ (see John 1).
Jesus has always been, and will always be, the One who chases away darkness.
He is still the One who calms storms.
He is still the One who heals broken hearts.
He is still the One who restores hope to weary souls.
He is still the One who reminds us that we are deeply loved, fully known, and never abandoned.
The same God who carried me through my darkest season is the same God who is walking with you today. Even if you can't feel Him, He is there. Even if you can't hear Him, He is working.
Even if you can't see the way forward, He already knows the path.
Don't stop talking to Him. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep taking one step at a time.
One day you'll look back and realize what He did. God was there every single moment; He never left; He never stopped loving you, and He never will!
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me." — Psalm 23:4
"Fear not, for I am with you... I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." — Isaiah 41:10
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." — John 1:5
Reflection Questions
Have I been allowing my feelings to define God's presence instead of trusting His promises?
What lies have I been believing that God's Word says are not true?
How can I intentionally draw closer to God this week, even if I don't immediately feel His presence?
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the God who never walks away. Thank You for staying close even when we cannot feel You, hear You, or understand what You are doing. Thank You that Your presence is not determined by our emotions but by Your unchanging promise to never leave or forsake Your children.
Lord, I pray for every person reading these words today. You know the battles they are facing that no one else sees. You know the tears they've cried, the questions they've asked, and the silent prayers they've whispered. Meet them right where they are.
For those overwhelmed by depression, breathe hope into their weary hearts. For those consumed by anxiety, replace fear with Your perfect peace. For those weighed down by grief, wrap them in Your comforting arms. For those who feel forgotten or unloved, remind them that they are treasured beyond measure.
Silence every lie the enemy has spoken over their lives and replace it with the truth of Your Word. Remind them that they are chosen, forgiven, deeply loved, and never alone.
Lord, help us trust You even when we cannot trace what You're doing. Give us faith to keep walking when the path is unclear and courage to keep praying when the answers seem delayed.
When our strength is gone, carry us. When our hope feels small, strengthen it. When our hearts are broken, heal them with Your unfailing love.
May we never forget that the Light of Christ is always greater than the darkness surrounding us. Help us fix our eyes on You, knowing that You are faithful yesterday, today, and forever.
Thank You for never letting go of our hand.
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus we pray,
Amen.
