In the Palm of My Hand ~ Worshiping God in Every Season
In the Palm of My Hand ~ Worshiping God in Every Season
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” — Revelation 4:11 (NIV)
In Luke 19:28-40 we read about a famous historical event The Triumphal Entry! There’s something so powerful about the moment Jesus entered Jerusalem. The crowd didn’t have perfect offerings, they didn’t have instruments, stages, or rehearsed songs. The people used what they had, palm branches and coats, laying them down before Him in praise. It didn’t matter if some had more and some had less, what mattered is that they all had something to give, and they happily gave it. This part of scripture reminds us that worship isn’t about perfection, but surrender.
Worship Isn’t About What You Have...... It’s About Your Heart
Sometimes we think worship has to look a certain way. We wait until life settles down, until we feel ready, or until everything is going right. We do not need to wait for any of these things to happen. Real worship happens in the middle of real life - in busy seasons, in overwhelming moments, and even in the middle of distractions.
Life can easily pull our attention in a hundred different directions, responsibilities, worries, expectations, or heartaches. Before we know it, our focus shifts from Jesus to everything else demanding our time and energy. But just like the crowd that day, we’re invited to pause and ask ourselves: “What do I have in my hands right now that I can offer to Jesus?”
Maybe we have our time to give, or our attention, or maybe we can surrender our plans to God. Worship often looks like letting go. As believers in Christ, we yield control, anxieties, and plans to God, trusting His wisdom over human understanding (see Proverbs 3:5-6).
Returning to Our First Love
There’s a reason the song “Coming Back to a Heart of Worship” resonates so deeply with many Christians today - it reminds us that it’s easy to drift, not intentionally, but slowly, and quietly. We can get distracted, overwhelmed, or tired. Somewhere along the way, we can forget the joy of our salvation, but the beautiful thing about God is that we can always come back.
We can ask Him to refocus our hearts, we can ask Him to renew our joy, and we can ask Him to remind us of our first love.
Worship becomes real again when we stop performing and simply say,
“Jesus, here I am, this is what I have, and it’s Yours.”
In Every Season, He Is Worthy
Whether you’re walking through a mountaintop season or a valley moment, God is still worthy, not because of what He’s doing at the moment, but because of who He is.
Revelation 4:11 reminds us that He created all things, including you and me, and everything exists by His will. This means your life, your season, and even your struggles are not outside of His awareness or care. Even when life feels chaotic, you can still worship. Even when you feel empty, you still have something to give. Sometimes the most powerful worship is simply saying:
“God, I trust You anyway.”
Reflection Question
Are there things in your life - physical things or personal desires - that you’ve been holding onto, that God is asking you to lay down as an act of worship?
Action Steps
1. Take Inventory of Your Hands
Pause today and ask yourself: What am I holding onto?
It could be a worry, a distraction, control over a situation, or even your time. Choose one thing and intentionally surrender it to God in prayer.
2. Create a Moment of Simple Worship
Set aside 5–10 minutes today, no distractions, just worship. Play “Coming Back to a Heart of Worship” or sit in silence and thank God for who He is. Don’t overthink it, just come as you are.
Heavenly Father,
You are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. Thank You for reminding us that worship isn’t about perfection, but about surrender. Just like the crowd laid down what they had before You, help us to lay down everything we’re holding onto - our distractions, our worries, our plans, and even our desires.
Lord, when life feels overwhelming and our hearts drift, gently draw us back to You. Restore the joy of our salvation and remind us of our first love. Teach us to worship You in every season - on the mountaintop and in the valley. Take what we have, no matter how small it feels, and use it for Your glory. We place our lives in the palm of Your hand today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
