Blessed In the Dark Places
Blessed In the Dark Places
“…If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.” — Isaiah 50:10 (NLT)
All of us, at some point, will walk through a dark place, a sickness, a divorce, a deep loss, or heartbreak from a child who makes painful choices. Dark seasons are not optional in this life. They come uninvited and often unannounced.
In those moments, it’s easy to grow discouraged. We may question our purpose, our prayers, and even God’s plan. We may assume the darkness signals the end. But what if the darkness is not the end, but the beginning?
Consider a seed, as long as it remains exposed in the light, it cannot germinate, or grow, or fulfill its purpose. The seed must be buried in the soil. It must be covered, hidden, and surrounded by darkness, and only then does it begin to break open and come to life.
In the same way, God often plants us in dark seasons so the potential within us can emerge. Dreams deepen ~ Faith strengthens ~ Character forms ~ Trust grows roots.
Scripture reminds us:
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5
The night is not permanent. It has an expiration date.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” — Psalm 34:18
You are never alone in the dark. God is closest when the night feels heaviest. Dark seasons develop perseverance. They teach us to not rely on what we see, but on who He is. They produce in us something light seasons cannot, depth, compassion, resilience, and unshakable faith.
If you’re walking through a dark place today, don’t despise it, don’t rush it, and don’t assume it’s punishment. It may very well be preparation.
The seed in you is breaking open. What God is growing in the dark will bloom in the light
Two Action Steps
1. Choose Trust Over Fear
When doubt creeps in, speak God’s promises out loud. Write down one scripture each day that reminds you of His faithfulness. Let truth drown out fear.
2. Look for Growth, Not Just Relief
Instead of only praying, “God, get me out,” also pray, “God, grow me through this.” Ask Him what He’s developing in your character during this season.
Father,
Thank You for the seeds of greatness You have placed inside me. Even when I cannot see the light, help me trust that You are working beneath the surface. When the darkness feels overwhelming, remind me that You are near to the brokenhearted and faithful to complete what You’ve started. Grow my faith, strengthen my character, and bring forth the purpose You planted in me. I will rely on You in the dark places, knowing that joy is coming.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen. 🙏🏽
