Power of Thankfulness
The Power of Thankfulness
“Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory.” — Psalm 115:1
Thankfulness is more than a polite response - it's a lifestyle of recognizing the goodness of God in every detail of our lives. Every sunrise we wake up to, every breath in our lungs, and every blessing we enjoy - these are gifts from a loving Father who sees us, cares for us, and provides for us daily.
God doesn’t have to bless us. He doesn’t owe us anything. Yet He chooses to do so because He loves us so much! Joyfully, God watches over us, and He leads us. He never takes a day off. He never grows weary. His faithfulness is constant, steady, and sure.
“The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” — Lamentations 3:22-23
A Heart of Gratitude
Have you ever prayed a prayer of gratitude? You can pray a prayer like this:
“Father, everything I have is because of You.
The home I live in, the food on my table, and the clothes I wear - You provided them.
The life I’m living and the very air I breathe, it’s all from You.
You take such good care of me. You are a good, good Father.
You are worthy to be praised.”
When we stop to truly think about it, we can realize how much we take for granted each day. Simple things like shelter, safety, family, the ability to work, the gift of rest - all of these flow from the generous hand of our God.
Having a heart full of gratitude means that you can experience a deep sense of thankfulness for what you have. It’s a feeling of deep appreciation for kindness, blessings, and good things, even amid life’s challenges.
“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.”
— Psalm 9:1
Grateful for More Than Just Things
God doesn’t just bless us with physical things. He equips us spiritually too.
“Father, even my gifts and talents come from You.
Any creativity I have, you put it there.
Any compassion in my heart, You formed it.
The strength in me comes from You.
Mold me, shape me, and use me for Your purpose. My life is Yours.”
Every one of us was created on purpose for a purpose. God has given every believer gifts to shine His light in this dark world. The question is: “Are we using them for His glory?” Believers are called to be good stewards of their gifts and use them faithfully (see 1 Peter 4:10).
Are you a light to others?
Do you reflect the love of Jesus in your words and actions?
Do you give kindness even when it isn’t returned?
Do people see Christ in you?
Gratitude Keeps Us Humble
Everything good in our lives comes from God—EVERYTHING!
That truth keeps our hearts humble. We should never say, “Look what I have done,” but instead, “Look what God has done!”
He opens doors no man can shut.
He heals what is broken.
He restores what is lost.
He blesses beyond what we deserve.
So today, let thankfulness rise from your heart. Celebrate His goodness. Testify of His faithfulness. Invite others to taste and see that the Lord is good (see Psalm 34:8).
