Taste and See His Goodness

Taste and See His Goodness

“O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.” – Psalm 34:8

Throughout the course of our lives, we experience countless sights, sounds, and flavors. From the very moment we’re born, we begin exploring the world with curious eyes and eager taste buds. Babies put everything in their mouths - not just to eat, but to learn. As adults, aren’t we the same way?  We are always eager to taste something new, to see something beautiful, or maybe explore a place we’ve never been.

The “travel bug” is real. I get it often! That itch to see new places, try foods we’ve never even heard of, or stand in awe of breathtaking views is something many of us feel.

Here's the question: Have you ever stopped to think about where that desire comes from?

Every flavor, every color, every landscape - whether it’s the salty air at the beach, the sweetness of ripe fruit, or the fiery hues of a sunset - comes from God. He could have made food plain and tasteless, yet He chose to make it delicious. He could have made the world dull and colorless, yet He painted it vibrant. Why? Because His love for us is boundless.

The Bible reminds us:

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” – James 1:17

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” – Psalm 19:1

“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.” – 1 Timothy 4:4

When we “taste and see,” we’re not just enjoying food or sights, we’re experiencing God’s goodness firsthand. Each bite, each view, each discovery is a reminder of His endless creativity and His deep love for His children.

What if today, instead of rushing through meals or overlooking the beauty around us, we slowed down and gave thanks? What if every aroma in the kitchen reminded us of God’s generosity, and every glimpse of creation turned our hearts toward worship?

Let’s cultivate a childlike wonder, a heart that sees everyday experiences as extraordinary gifts from the Father. Gratitude transforms ordinary moments into holy moments.

Prayer

Dear Father, today we come to You with hearts full of gratitude. Thank You for the gift of taste, and for the endless variety of foods and flavors that You created for our enjoyment. Thank You for the gift of sight, and for the breathtaking beauty of creation that declares Your glory. Lord, help us not to take these blessings for granted but to see them as love notes from You. May we have childlike wonder and thankful hearts as we enjoy Your gifts today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
