FINDING REST IN A WORLD THAT NEVER STOPS
FINDING REST IN A WORLD THAT NEVER STOPS
Do you struggle to find a healthy rhythm in your life? Is it hard to find balance between work and rest?
If we’re being honest, many of us would answer ‘yes’ to these questions. The weight of daily responsibilities can feel relentless. There is always something calling for our attention the laundry needs folding. The dishes are stacked in the sink. The trash needs to be taken out. The dog had another accident.
The kids need to be shuttled from one activity to the next And that’s just one ordinary day.
The to-do list seems endless, and the pressure to keep moving never really lets up. People may never know what's on your list, but God knows. He sees you in the middle of the juggling, the hustling, and the exhaustion. He sees every unseen act of love and service. At just the right time, God gently and lovingly reminds us to pause and rest. He wants us to remember the Sabbath.
Will we listen to what God is giving us? He gives us the choice. Will we choose to pause, and to allow our minds and bodies to slow down? We can choose to be still and rest fully in the arms of our LORD.
We were not created to run endlessly, fueled by obligations and adrenaline. That was never God’s intention for us.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy… on it you shall not do any work.”
—Exodus 20:8,10.
Rest is not weakness. Rest is obedience. Rest is trust. When we rest, we declare that God is in control even when we stop moving. We make space for our souls to breathe, for our hearts to realign, and for our spirits to be renewed in His presence. Sabbath rest isn’t just about ceasing from work; it’s about intentionally abiding and dwelling with the One who sustains us.
Jesus reminds us with this tender invitation:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
—Matthew 11:28
What a promise! Rest is not something we have to manufacture, it's something we receive when we come to Him.
Still, many of us struggle. We feel guilty slowing down, and we worry about what is not getting done. We convince ourselves we’ll rest later when life is calmer, and when the kids are older, but that “later” often never comes.
God invites us to rest now.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
—Psalm 46:10
If you’re struggling to take Sabbath rest seriously, please remember that you are not alone. We are all in this together, learning and growing.
My heart longs to be with God more deeply - not just one day a week, but every day. What about you?
Is that the desire of your heart too?
I pray that it is.
Prayer
Fathe, we live in a world that never slows down. We race from one responsibility to the next, often forgetting that You have called us to pause, to rest, and to abide in You. Help us release the need to always be productive. Teach us how to truly rest in Your presence. Restore our souls and remind us that You are God even when we stop. We ask all of this in Your Son's loving name, Amen.
