Trusting God with Your Children
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22
Listening to God's Word is the starting point, but obedience is where transformation begins. As parents, we are especially called to act on what we hear, particularly in how we raise our children. Scripture clearly calls us to train them in the ways of the Lord.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
God gives us the incredible gift of parenthood, not to control our children, but to steward them. They are His before they are ours. As stewards, our job is to nurture, guide, and teach them with the love of Christ. Through our example, we mold them into who God has created them to become. It is a holy calling, one that requires trust, patience, and deep faith.
There will be seasons where it may look like our children are straying or resisting spiritual truth. But we must remember:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
What we see may not align with what we are praying for, but God is always working behind the scenes. Our responsibility is not to produce immediate results but to remain faithful, to keep planting seeds, speaking truth, and showing unconditional love.
The Blessings of Having Children
1. A Divine Heritage – Children are God’s reward (see Psalm 127:3). He entrusts us with their lives, which is a sign of His trust in us.
2. A Reflection of God's Love – Parenting mirrors the heart of the Father. In showing love, correction, and grace, we experience a deeper understanding of Him.
3. A Legacy of Faith – Raising our children in the Lord establishes a spiritual inheritance that can impact generations (see 2 Timothy 1:5).
God blesses families who choose to serve Him. His protection and favor is with them.
“For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” Psalm 5:12
4. Peace in the Home – God Himself will be the children’s primary teacher and guide, and this spiritual instruction from the LORD will lead to a profound sense of inner and outer peace.
“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” Isaiah 54:13
5. Lasting Fruit – God wants us to please Him and honor Him in all we do.
“So that you may live a life worthy of the LORD and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:10
Reflection Questions:
* Have I surrendered my children fully to the Lord, trusting Him with their journey and future?
* Am I modeling the love, grace, and obedience to God that I desire to see in my children?
* In what areas am I tempted to control rather than steward with faith and wisdom?
* How can I create a Christ-centered atmosphere in my home that reflects God's love and
truth?
* What promises from God’s Word am I holding on to for my children?
Closing Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of children. What a sacred responsibility and beautiful blessing You have given me. Help me to be a faithful steward of their lives, not controlling, but guiding them in love and truth. Teach me to walk by faith and not by what I see. Even when things look uncertain, I will trust in Your promises. Strengthen me, Lord, and remind me that You are the perfect Father, and You are writing their story. Give me grace, wisdom, and patience each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Speak this declaration out loud:
I declare that I am a faithful steward of the children God has entrusted to me. I walk by faith and not by sight. I will train them in the way they should go, and I trust that God's Word will not return void. My family is blessed, covered, and set apart for the glory of God. I believe that God's hand is upon my children, and His purpose will prevail in
their lives.
