GRACE FOR THIS SEASON
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV
Lately I’ve been feeling the changes in the air, not just in the weather, but in my home, my heart, and the different roles in my life. One child is stepping into adulthood, another is navigating the teen years, and I’m somewhere between cheering them on and wondering where the time went. My job isn’t what it used to be. Church commitments are shifting. Even my marriage is entering a new rhythm.
At first, I wrestled with it all, gripping tightly to what was familiar, afraid of losing purpose. But then I remembered: God works in seasons. Just like spring gives way to summer and summer to fall, our lives are designed with rhythms. In each season, there's a purpose, a reason, and a grace.
“As your days are, so shall your strength be.” Deuteronomy 33:25
This means that our strength will always be equivalent to what we need. God gives us grace for every season. We don’t need yesterday’s strength today, and we don’t need tomorrow’s grace today. God gives us what we need right now, for this moment, this assignment, and this stage of life.
Here are three truths I’m learning to live by:
- Maximize the Season You’re In
Right now my home looks different. I’m no longer chasing toddlers, but I’m having deep talks with my teens and giving space to my grown child. Instead of mourning the old season, I’m learning to pour into this one with fresh intention by listening more, encouraging deeper, and being present.
- Transition with Grace
Some things in my life are winding down, like ministries I once led and roles I used to hold. Instead of clinging to things I used to be a part of, I’m asking God to show me what to reach for next. Elijah passed his mantle to Elisha, but it didn’t stop there. Paul taught Timothy, who taught others. I want to be like Paul. He was not afraid to pass the baton and cheer from the sidelines when it’s someone else’s turn.
- Enjoy the Moments
It’s tempting to look back, or even to rush ahead in life. What I’m learning now is to enjoy the conversations at the dinner table, the new dynamics with my spouse, and the small wins at work. Every season has something beautiful – if I choose to see it.
Paul said at the end of his journey, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith… there is laid up for me the crown” (see 2 Timothy 4:7–8). I want to live so that I, too, can say that I have no regrets. I only wish to have gratitude for every season I was blessed to walk through.
Reflection:
What season are you in right now? Is God asking you to let go of something or step into something new? What’s one way you can embrace today with grace?
Prayer:
Lord, help me recognize the season I’m in right now. Give me grace to let go when it’s time, courage to embrace what’s ahead, and joy to savor this time. Remind me that every season is part of Your perfect plan. Amen.
