Delighting in the Lord
Walking in Daily Delight
Have you ever heard someone say you are a delight to be around? Surprising to some, that's how God feels about you. He doesn't just love you, He wants to be with you.
Sometimes we can love someone, feel obligated to spend time with them, and not necessarily like them. This is not so with God. He likes us, He loves us, and He’s looking for us to humbly seek Him and trust Him wholeheartedly.
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” — Psalm 37:4
What does it mean to ‘Delight in the LORD’ ? How can we walk daily delighting in God?
Trust in the Lord and Do Good
Trust anchors us in God’s faithfulness. As we lean into His goodness and respond by doing good, we reflect His light to the world around us. As believers, we are called to live a life of kindness, compassion, and righteousness.
"Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pastures."
— Psalm 37:3
“Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust Him. and He will help you.” — Psalm 37:5
Delighting in the Presence of the Lord
There is a quiet, unshakable joy found in simply being with the LORD. When our hearts find delight in Him, everything else in life falls into its rightful place. Delight is not about circumstances, it’s about connection. It’s about choosing to take pleasure in who God is.There is no sweeter place than the presence of our God. It is where our souls find rest, our worries are stilled, and our hearts are made whole. Spending time with the Lord - whether in worship, silence, or prayer - renews us from the inside out.
"You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
— Psalm 16:11
Delighting in the Teachings of the Lord
God’s Word is alive and powerful. When we open the Bible, we are not reading mere text, we are actually listening to the voice of our Father. His instructions do not burden us. They are not unreasonable. All of God’s Word is trustworthy, and full of life.
"Blessed is the one... whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night."
— Psalm 1:1–2
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” — 1 John 5:3
Delighting in Receiving from the Lord
Our Father delights in giving good gifts. Every blessing, every answered prayer, every moment of peace is a gift from His hand. When we receive with open hands and thankful hearts, we grow in faith and trust.
“And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.” — 1 John 5:14-1
Delight Overflows into Worship
When our hearts are full of delight, worship flows effortlessly. It’s not just something we do, it becomes who we are. Worship is the natural response of a soul that has tasted the goodness of God.
"I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being."
— Psalm 146:2
Delight in the Works of God
Delighting in the works of God is to find joy and pleasure in God’s creations and actions. We can do this in the natural world, in our everyday life, and in His Word. God's works speak of His glory.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” — Psalm 19:1
Delight in Serving God
Service becomes joyful when it’s rooted in love. Whether you're ministering to one or many, each act of obedience is a sacred offering.
"Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs."
— Psalm 100:2
Delight in Prayer
God wants us to speak with Him through prayer. Prayer is not just a request, it’s a relationship that God desires and where we can pour out what's in our hearts. The more time we spend in prayer, the more we will delight in it and long for it.
“The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but he delights in the prayers of the upright.” — Proverbs 15:8
So we see that delighting in the LORD is a daily choice. When we do this, it is from a place of joy, intimacy, and surrender. We rest in God’s promises and His faithfulness. We get to walk hand-in-hand with the One who loves us and delights in us!
May your heart find it's deepest joy in Him today.
